I have no issues with the sidebar and all the cool commenter metrics stuff they're showing. But the actual comments section is cancerous drek that needs to be nuked from orbit.
How does a company that keeps saying 'we value and need our commenters for this site' go and create something that makes actually following the comments fucking impossible? Like what the fucking fuck?

They can do whatever they want with the page itself. It annoys me but it isn't any more or less functional. The commenting system is like word vomit on a page and trying to figure it out gives me a headache.

I kinda liked the old grid-layout that's still on Oppo now....much easier to 'browse' the comments without scrolling for miles. Click one and it expands, click away and it goes away. That one took some getting used to, too, so my mind is open to see what this new layout brings.

I think it'll take getting used to, but the graphics themselves make it very hard to read. Even when this one was new it was easy to tell comments apart. The new system? Not so much.

I tried reading through the 'philosophy behind the new commenting system' post and it just came off as hackish.
"Conversations need to be curated" "We're going to organize comments like a tree".

I made a comment on one of the feedback "articles" I guess we'll call it; I can't go back to find it. Side discussions basically completely disappear.
